Thalapathy Vijay’s latest action thriller, The Greatest Of All Time (GOAT), has made a massive splash at the Indian box office, shattering records and becoming the biggest Tamil opener of all time.
Despite receiving mixed reviews, the film opened to phenomenal numbers, surpassing the first-day collections of previous blockbusters like Baahubali, 2.0, Jailer, and Ponniyin Selvan. According to early estimates, GOAT raked in an impressive Rs 43 crore nett in India on its opening day.
Vijay’s film has broken several records, including the highest first-day haul for a Tamil film, beating Vikram (Rs 29 crore), Jailer (Rs 37.6 crore), and 2.0 (Rs 23 crore). The film’s occupancy rate on its release day was a staggering 76.23%.
Directed by Venkat Prabhu, GOAT features Vijay in dual roles as a father and son. The film also stars Prashanth, Prabhu Deva, Ajmal Ameer, Mohan, Jayaram, Sneha, Laila, Meenakshi Chaudhary, Vaibhav, Yogi Babu, Premgi Amaren, and Yugendran.
The film’s plot revolves around a seasoned spy and hostage negotiator, played by Vijay, who faces a dangerous threat to the city of Chennai. His son, also played by Vijay, comes to his rescue, and the father-son duo work together to thwart the terrorists’ plan.
GOAT has been a massive commercial success, and Vijay’s performance has been widely praised. However, the film has also faced criticism for its mixed reviews. Nevertheless, the film’s box office success is a testament to Vijay’s immense popularity and the enduring appeal of Tamil cinema.
In a surprising announcement, Vijay revealed that GOAT would be his last film before he ventures into politics. The actor stated that he is committed to serving the people of Tamil Nadu and believes that politics is his true calling.
